Dream Psychology by Sigmund Freud v1.0

Dream Psychology by Sigmund Freud v1.0 | Read more...
Description
Not a few serious-minded students have been discouraged from attempting a study of Freud’s dream psychology. The book in which he originally offered to the world his interpretation of dreams was as circumstantial as a legal record to be pondered over by scientists at their leisure, not to be assimilated in a few hours by the average alert reader. In those days, Freud could not leave out any detail likely to make his extremely novel thesis evidentially acceptable to those willing to sift data. Freud himself, however, realized the magnitude of the task which the reading of his magnum opus imposed upon those who have not been prepared for it by long psychological and
scientific training and he abstracted from that gigantic work the parts which constitute the essential of his discoveries.

Barchester Towers By Anthony Trollope 1.0

Barchester Towers By Anthony Trollope v1.0 | Read more...
Description
Barchester Towers, published in 1857, is the second novel in Anthony Trollope's series known as the "Chronicles of Barsetshire". It is possibly Trollope's best known work.
Barchester Towers concerns the leading citizens of the imaginary cathedral city of Barchester. The much loved bishop having died, all expectations are that his son, Archdeacon Grantly, also a clergyman, will gain the office in his place. Instead, owing to the passage of the power of patronage to a new Prime Minister, a newcomer, Bishop Proudie, gains the see. His wife, Mrs Proudie, exercises an undue influence over the new bishop, making herself unpopular with right-thinking members of the clergy and their families. Her interference in the reappointment of the universally popular Mr Septimus Harding (hero of Trollope's earlier novel, The Warden) as warden of the hospital is not well received, even though she gives the position to a needy clergyman with a large family to support.
Even less popular than Mrs Proudie is the bishop's newly appointed chaplain, the hypocritical Mr Obadiah Slope, who takes a fancy to Harding's wealthy widowed daughter, Eleanor Bold, and hopes to win her favour by interfering in the controversy over the wardenship. Summoned by the local clergy to protect their interests against the Proudies and Mr Slope is another clergyman, the brilliant Mr Arabin. He also falls in love with Eleanor, and she with him. After some misunderstandings, they become engaged. Mr Slope's double-dealing is revealed, and he is dismissed by Mrs Proudie.

Star Trek Countdown #04 v1.0

Star Trek Countdown #04 v1.0 | Download
Description
When we last left our heroes, Nero was going on a rampage, pwning whoever stood in his way. The fleet of General Worf of the Klingon Empire intercepted Nero's ship, the Narada.

In this issue, the Klingons open up on the Narada to no effect. The Narada cloaks itself and to Worf's surprise, opens fire on the Klingon fleet while still cloaked. Worf's fleet is decimated, and Nero demands Worf's surrender. Worf is to hop on a shuttle and come over to the Narada. (Why not have him beam over?) Worf has other plans, though. His crew jump out of the shuttle before the Narada's airlock and cut through the hull for a surprise attack.

Cut to Vulcan where Spock leaves for the Hobus star (which he plans to implode with a black hole created from red matter) piloting the Jellyfish. The Enterprise leaves Vulcan to assist Worf in combating Nero.

Worf infiltrates the bridge of the Narada looking to lay the smack down on Nero personally. Nero has a trick up his sleeve though, and he uses a tail-like weapon of dubious function on his bridge to impale Worf through his back.

Description
When we last left our heroes, Nero watched his homeworld get pwned by the explosive destruction of the Hobus star.

This issue starts a short time after the supernova with Nero getting his distinctive tattoos to honor his dead family. In a pseudo flashback, we see Federation medical frigates arrive at the scene just after the tragedy. They offer Nero their help. But no, Nero's being a big ol' grumpy gus about it and thinks the Federation is looking to claim Romulan space. Nero then beams over mining exposives and destroys the Federation ships.

He then learns that the Romulan Senate escaped via a shuttle. The Senate beams aboard Nero's ship. Nero blames the Senate for ignoring his warnings and delaying the evacuation of Romulus until it was too late. He then grabs a bladed staff (which was shown in one of the trailers) and impales a senator.

Cut to the "present", with Picard and Spock sitting with the Vulcan High Council. Spock believes that the Hobus supernova threatens the whole galaxy and that his plan to implode the supernova from within with a black hole created from red matter is the only solution. But how to get close enough to the center of the Hobus star to deposit the red matter? Why, with a super-cool new ship, of course! The "Jellyfish" is a prototype ship designed to withstand extreme atmospheric pressures. Just what we need!

Star Trek Countdown #01 v1.0

Star Trek Countdown #01 v1.0 | Download
Description
The new Star Trek film will be hitting theaters May 8, 2009. As I’ve stated in previous blogs here on Comix 411, I’m very excited about this and the trailer looks good. IDW Publishing is the current comic book company which owns the rights to publish Star Trek comic books. I’ve never really been one to read Star Trek novels or comics. I primarily stick to the television shows and the movies. However, I decided to take a chance on “Star Trek: Countdown” because it was being presented as prequel to the upcoming film.

This first issue of this mini-series was pretty good. If you are a big time Trekker, I would pick it up, but if you are a big time Trekker, you probably already have. The story revolves around Spock in the “present” world of Star Trek: The Next Generation (TNG) continuity. Spock has been living on Romulus and has been working towards the unification of the Romulan home world and Vulcan. This mission of Spock’s was first introduced in the classic TNG episode “Unification”.

In that episode, the movement towards unification was an underground movement. In this issue, we find out that the movement is now out and in the open and Spock is now a legal resident of the Romulus. Spock addresses the Romulan Senate and informs them of a supernova that that is occurring in a near by star system which could spread and destroy Romulus if they do not act immediately. The Senate does not believe Spock and some believe that this some sort of Vulcan trick.

A space mining team addresses the Senate and state that Spock is telling the truth as they have just escaped from the supernova’s wrath. The team is lead by a Romulan named Nero. Nero will be the main villain in the upcoming Star Trek film. Spock and Nero meet up and decide to take matters into their own hands. While they are out in space, they are attacked by Remans. When all looks lost, they are rescued by a familiar starship which has a new captain at the helm. I’ll just leave it at that. It was very cool and shocking.

Whether you really need to read this book before you see the movie, is somewhat doubtful. I think they’re just trying to make a fun story and for the most part they succeed. On a side note, there is a scene in the book where Spock is addressing the Romulan Senate. As he addresses them, he tells the corniest joke ever. Now I can kind forgive that as Spock, has lightened up a bit in his old age, but if they are going to have him tell a joke, at least let it be a good one.

The art work was okay. I would have liked to have seen a better artist on a book that will be used to help promote the new film, but maybe IDW aren’t able to get some of the big names as these artists tend to be locked up in contracts by Marvel and DC.
